Copyright is one of the forms of protecting intellectual property. If you have copyright over your work, you are the only person that has the right to distribute or use it. You can even make it where if someone wants to use your work, they have to pay you. Fair use is a set of guidelines created by the Copyright Act of 1976 that regulates how people can use copyrighted materials. Most teachers in higher education are allowed to post the first two chapters of a copyrighted textbook under fair use. In other instances, if you want to show a movie in class, you may need to get permission depending on how big your class is.
In a future classroom battling decreased productivity and lack of funding, as a teacher I would help students set study strategies and apply for federal grants while making other options available. Some study strategies I would suggest for my students is the Pomodoro method. With this you would work for 15-20 minutes then take a 5-10 minutes break. You would repeat this 3 times and on your 4th break you would break for longer, say 10-15 minutes. As for lack of funding I would continuously apply for grants other forms of aid. This is obviously not ideal but in the meantime I would make paper assignment available for students that do not have computers at home and I would try to schedule some lab time so that all students become familiar with the technology.
Before I started this assignment I thought I was very proficient in Microsoft Office Word. However, I learned very quickly that I did not know everything and I was frustrated. I wanted to be able to add specific boarders around my columns to separates things such as my spelling list. I never figured it out and settled for a full page border. In the future I can use skills such as creating columns to format resumes and other important documents.

Hi Rebecca, I love your newsletter! Your incorporation of Halloween decorations made it very fun to read over. I understand your frustrations, though, because I also found myself struggling with borders and columns. But it turned out amazing in the end, so don't let these frustrations put a damper on you! MS Word is full of different functions and I think that using it is going to be somewhat of a constant learning process. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Rebecca! I think you worded the distinction between copyright and fair use well. I have not yet heard of the Pomodoro method, but it sounds like a great way to avoid student burnout, especially when studying for long periods of time. Even though it sounds like you had some trouble formatting your Word document, the end results look great—I love how thematic your newsletter is!
ReplyDeleteHi Rebecca! I learned a new term from your blog: Pomodoro method. I have never heard of this study method before. It sounds like it is very helpful when changing from subject to subject. I will have to test this out soon since studying in my dorm can get distracting. Your Halloween themed newsletter is adorable. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteI love how creative and engaging your newsletter is! Your solution to combat low funding is reasonable, and probably what other teachers are doing right now. Like Oliver and Julia, I have also never heard of the Pomodoro method, but it seems like a clever way to promote productivity and prevent burnout. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteHey Rebecca! I think your newsletter is absolutely adorable. I did not even consider to use a boarder, that was really smart! It's super creative and definitely something that little kids could interact with.
ReplyDeleteHey Rebecca this is great work I love how organized it looks it is just great ! Can not wait to see another post of yours.
