Data collection could be very helpful to gain information on students. I would use it gauge how well students are understanding materials without a stigma of students knowing each other's answers. I have a professor this semester that uses surveys at the beginning of each class to ask students how they're feeling just in general. She said that it helps her know whether she should reach out to certain students. I think that as a high school history teacher this would be an effective tool to get to know students better.
I liked reading about each person's thoughts on online classes. Personally I like online classes but it was interesting to see that so many people disagree. It could be that because I'm a senior I don't mind not being in a physical class. I can definitely understand that some people need to be in an actual classroom to focus though.
I would like to learn more about coding. In middle school I used Kahn Academy to learn the basics but I'd like to know more. I think it is a very useful skill to know as technology continues to progress. I would achieve this goal by enrolling in coding classes such as UCF's coding bootcamp or using YouTube classes. I think it would also be helpful to find online forums about coding to get extra help.
Hey Rebecca! It's really cool that your professor uses surveys to ask students how they're feeling. That's a really considerate thing to do, especially right now. Also, Khan Academy's coding program rules, I used it to learn the basics in middle school too. There are definitely a lot of free resources online that could help you learn more advanced coding skills.
ReplyDeleteI really like that your professor uses surveys that way! I'm going to be a high school teacher as well and I would love to do that as well, especially since teenagers are in a vulnerable time period of their lives. Also, I'm a freshman so I would have really liked classes to be in person (but I understand and agree with why they are not). It's interesting to hear that you don't feel the same way, and if I were a senior I think I would agree.
ReplyDeleteHi Rebecca! I love the idea of a sort of wellness check before each class meeting. Thats a great, anonymous, and stress free to express feelings that might affect your work. I find that it can be really hard bringing this type of subject up with teachers/professors/authority figures so this is a great method!
